Rainbow is building profit and loss tracking for token trades
The wallet's code now has a P&L section in progress: profit and loss on spot trades in ERC-20 tokens. Today the change #7888 was merged. It covers the case where a position is already closed.
What users will see
A pill on the token page. While you still hold the tokens you bought, it shows the unrealized result: how much the position has gained or lost at the current price. Once everything you bought is sold, the pill switches to realized profit or loss, as an amount and a percentage.
A detailed sheet on tap. It shows the amount invested and the average entry price; after sales, also the average exit price and the total return. The sheet comes from the related change #7878.
Only purchased tokens count. Tokens received by transfer are left out, and the bottom of the sheet says how many were excluded.
Where the numbers come from
Rainbow does not compute them itself. The data comes from Codex, a service that collects wallet trades from the blockchain. The realized result covers the last 12 months only; a position closed earlier will not be included.
Is it in the app
Not yet. #7888 was merged not into the main branch but into the branch of #7878, which is still open. The feature itself is behind an experimental flag. The latest released version is 2.0.46 from October 8. Rainbow does not announce in advance which version will include it.
